The Road Trip

16/07/2019

How my trip started:

I set off for Malaga Airport at 5am, the sun hadn't even come up yet. I'm usually a nervous traveller, but this was going to be my first long hall connecting flight, so I wanted to get to the airport with plenty of time.

It was an hour and a half drive to get to from my home to the airport, and my flight wasn't until 11 am. I somehow thought it was a good idea for me to be sitting alone for hours at the airport, which was definitely not the case!

My flight plan was simple, Malaga to Dublin, a 30 minute lay over, then Dublin to Seattle. One day of travelling done.

BUT this is where things started to go wrongI got on my first flight to Dublin, with no problems. However, the good luck didn't last too long. We landed in Dublin 30 minutes ahead of the schedule and we waited for the plane to park. 30 minutes went by, another 30 minutes went by and still nothing.

There were a few other people who were on my flight who were also taking the same connection to Seattle. We were all told that we shouldn't worry, and because we were flying with the same airline, we wouldn't miss our connecting flight.

Long story short, we did miss our flight. And I ended up having to catch another flight to London to get on my final flight to Seattle the following day.

The Route

Tacoma, Washington - Snoqualmie Pass, Washington - Gardiner, Montana - Salt Lake City, Utah - Moab, Utah - Durango, Colorado - Santa Fe, New Mexico - Las Vegas, Nevada - Los Angeles, California - Santa Barbra, California - Los Olivos, California - Santa Cruz, California - San Francisco, California - Santa Rosa, California - Portland, Oregon - Tacoma, Washington.

This trip was the most amazing experience I could have ever asked for. I can still remember how bright the stars were, when we camping in middle of nowhere in the Moab Desert. I can close my eyes at night and can place myself back in these places, where the sounds of coyotes surround us. I can also picture when we were driving on empty roads and rafting the Yellowstone River with new friends I felt I had known my whole life.

I am extremely grateful to have been able to go on this trip of a lifetime and am endlessly grateful to the kind people who helped us along the way. I honestly can't wait to be back surrounded by nature.
